Oedipus at Colonus is the second play in the Ancient Greek tragic trilogy The Oedipus Cycle by Sophocles. Oedipus, exiled from the city after unknowingly killing his father and marrying his mother, is confronted on sacred ground near Colonus, where he pledges loyalty to the city and King Theseus of Athens. After King Creon of Thebes tries to steal Oedipus' daughter, Antigone, the Athenians fight back the Thebans to protect them. Before dying, Oedipus begrudgingly speaks with his son Polynices, who, he prophesies, will fight with his brother for Thebes.
