Ajax, an ancient tragic play, takes place in the middle of the Trojan War and explores themes of honor and pride. The hero Ajax is enraged because he was not given Achilles' armor, and vows to take his revenge upon Odysseus and the other Greek leaders. Athena, friend to Odysseus, instead tricks him into believing a herd of sheep are his enemies, and Ajax proceeds to kill and torture them. Upon realizing what he has done, Ajax, ashamed and humiliated, commits suicide.
