The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is an 1838 novel by Edgar Allan Poe. The novel tells the story of Pym, who stows away on a whaling ship and has adventures at sea. After being shipwrecked, Pym is saved from cannibals by another ship, the Jane Guy. On the Jane Guy, Pym sails to a land inhabited by natives and eventually towards the South Pole. The book ends abruptly with a vision of a shrouded white figure, a possible symbol of death or spiritual transformation.
