The Clouds is a comedy by the Ancient Greek playwright Aristophenes that satirizes rhetoric and the study of philosophy. The play follows the story of Pheidippides and his father Strepsiades, who has fallen into debt. In hopes of dismissing his credits through argument, Strepsiades enters the Thinkery, an absurd school for intellectuals run by the famous philosopher Socrates. However, after Strepsiades fails, Pheidippides takes his place and eventually learns to outsmart and justify beating his father. Pheidippides blames Socrates and the school for his misfortune.
