Redwall is the story of the anthropomorphic mouse Matthias, an acolyte at Redwall Abbey where mice, hedgehogs, and other field animals coexist peacefully. Into this idyllic scenario comes the dreaded rat pirate Cluny the Scourge, a vicious brigand who besieges Redwall with a horde of vermin. Matthias is forced to take up the mantle of defender of the abbey as the threat of Cluny's horde becomes too dire for the other inhabitants to bear up under.
