Galatea 2.2 is a novel about Richard Powers, who returns to his University as a writer in residence. After facing writer's block for many months, he begins an experiment with Philip Lentz, a computer scientist, to create a computer, Helen, that can perform literary analysis. Lentz creates the program and Powers tutors it, eventually divulging his own life story and relationship with a woman named "C". Eventually, Helen cannot cope with the world and shuts herself down, though powers finds he has overcome writer's block.
