In the book Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, i dont agree with Julius Caesar being the tragic hero. Brutus had more hardships and a more difficult life, Brutus should be the tragic hero. Julius Caesar is not worthy of being a tragic hero because many other people in the book have done more to be more tragic, and more hero like.
Brutus killed Caesar for the good of Rome, which lead Brutus to his downfall. For example, the war started when Brutus killed Caesar, and Brutus was killed in the war. This shows that Brutus lead himself to his own death. This is important because it is the start to many wins and losses, mostly losses. For example, Brutus loses the war because Antony won over the people of Rome and Antony won them over because the people had nowhere else to turn. This shows that one of Brutus' tragic flaws is killing Caesar because everything was ruined for the conspiritors and himself for it. This is important because if they didnt kill Caesar then there wouldnt be many problems and there wouldnt have been a war, and many good men wouldnt have died. Brutus did something for Rome and he stuck through to the end to support what he believed.
Brutus led his army with bravery because he didnt have much else to lead them with. For example, Brutus knows that they would most likely lose but put up a fight because Brutus wasnt about to give up. This shows that Brutus was very brave and he was a good leader because he had few people and was still doing well in the war. This is important because it shows how honorable Brutus was and how good of a leader he was. For example, towards the end of the book, when Antony says, "Brutus was the most honorable man in all of Rome." This shows that Brutus was greatly respected even against his enemies. This is important because it made people realize how great Brutus was even though he killed their leader. Brutus was a good man and would make a great tragic hero.
Brutus keeps everything calm, and everybody happy. For example, even when his wife dies, he keeps his calm to not show fear in front of his warriors. This shows that Brutus can stay strong in the worst of times. This is important so that when he reaches a bad situation he would be able to go through with it without losing his cool and showing that hes not afraid. For example, Brutus takes Cassius into the tent to argue so that he doesnt let his soldiers hear or see what bad is going on. This shows that Brutus would do a lot in order to keep his soldiers from finding the truth and finding fear. This is important because if the soldiers saw Cassius' fear they would start to not agree with Brutus. Brutus did everything he could to keep the soldiers happy and brave.
In conclusion, Brutus would fit the tragic hero spot much better than Julius Caesar. People would understand easier why the book wouldnt be named the tragedy of julius Ceasar when he is only in Act 1. And though Brutus' death wasnt as horrible as Caesar, it was enough that he was considered a noble and honorable man by the enemy.
