But Brutus says he was ambitions, and Brutus is and honorable man. Brutus thinks Caesar is too ambitious and could become a tyrant later, but he had no evidence to prove that Caesar might become a tyrant. In other hands Antony gave the citizen specific evidence of what Caesar had done to Rome, and that make Brutus not very honorable. Antony thinks that the citizens of Rome are very easy to change their mind. His purpose is trying to find out a way to make the citizen of Rome to stay on his side and let them think that the conspirators killed Caesar for a different reason not because Caesar is being too ambitious. Brutus killed Caesar not because he killed Pompey, but because Brutus thinks Caesar is too ambitious. Antony in the speech told the citizen Brutus says that Caesar was too ambitious, and he also refers Brutus as an honorable man.
Antony using specific evidence into his speech to refuse Brutus thinking of Caesar is too ambitious. Brutus states that Caesar needed to die because he thinks Brutus was too ambitious, but Brutus doesnt have any evidence that Caesar was too ambitious. Antony refuses Brutus statements by giving the citizen some specific evidence of what Caesar did to Rome. He hath brought many captives home to Rome / Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill: / Did this in Caesar seem ambitious? (3.2.90-92). Antony using specific evidence to get the audience to thinks that Caesar wasnt very ambitious after all. When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: / Ambition should be made of sterner stuff (3.2.93-94). Antony bring out the evidence and emotional appeals, also he wants the citizen think that Caesar is not an ambitious person. You all did see that on the Lupercal / I thrice presented him a kingly crown, / Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?(3.2.97-99). Antony states that he had given Caesar the kingly crown three times but he refuses three times that show Caesar is not an ambitious person. Antony tried to make the audience to believe in him by using specific evidence in his speech.
Antony used repetition in his funeral speech by saying that Brutus is an honorable man. Antony succeeds in using repetition by repeating the same message again and again to get that message in people mind. But Brutus says he was ambitions, and Brutus is and honorable man.(3.2.95-100). He repeats the word honorable over and over again, but also he wants the people think that Brutus is not that honorable for assassinated his friend for no good reason. Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable man.(3.2.100-105). Antony keeps saying that Brutus think Caesar is too ambitious but he got no evidence to prove that Caesar is too ambitious. He repeats it to let people know that Caesar is not ambitious when Brutus got nothing to prove.
Antony using props in a smart way to keep the audience curious about the speech that make them want to hear more about it. The props help Antony a lot because he wants them to think and want to hear more about the speech. But heres a parchment with the seal of Caesar; / I found it in his closet, tis his will (3.2.130-131). The will from Caesar that Antony brought out was a smart way to keep the audience wanted to listen about the will of Caesar. Kind souls, what, weep you when you but behold / Our Caesars vesture wounded? Look you here, / Here is himself, marrd, as you see, with traitors (3.2.198-200). It also good when Antony brought out Caesar body as a prop so it can caught people emotion when they saw the body of great Caesar with many of whole in his body.
In the conclusion, Antony uses most of the persuasive devices to convince people to be on his side and turn them against the conspirators. Antony speech was pretty powerful where he can influence people and also he makes an intense revolt against the conspirators. Antony gives his specific evidence, repetition, and props to persuade people to be on his side. He also gives some verbal irony on the conspirators and make they look bad in front of the audience. Antony talks about how Brutus says how Caesar is being too ambitious but Brutus doesnt have any evidence or anything to prove that Caesar is too ambitious.
