In Their Eyes Were Watching God The beginning of the story really ties in to the end of the story. In the beginning we find out about a woman who has had a long journey and she begins to tell her tale and eventually this tale brings her back to the place she is now.

In the beginning of the story we see the main character Janie as she walks into town, tattered and silent. When she is finally alone with her friend Phoebe she begins to tell her of how her life was complete, how she lived life and found what she wanted in life. When Janie begins to narrate and the flashback to the past starts I start to learn of how she was young and curious, how she was trying to pursue love with another young man. I also learned about how Janies grandmother married her off to another man. During this time Janie was young and didnt know much about life, but she pursued love, her character was very reckless and rebellious.

As the story progresses we learn of Janies story as she begins to unravel her own life, her own narrator to her own story. As the story on we see many hard times as Janie breaks up with a husband, waits till one dies, and has to kill one of her husbands. All of these parts of the story shows the authors feelings, how Janie had to push on even though one thing lead to another, she had to find her way in life. The way Janie is both the character and the narrator to her own story makes her path to finding life clear.

Towards the end of the book we see how Janie starts to piece things together She says that her life has been lived and everything was fine. As Janie wraps up her own story she starts where she had left off in the beginning of the story. Throughout the story and ending up where she started we have seen Janies character built up through her struggles. In the end of the story we see that Janie is a strong character, having gone through such trauma of her three husbands, one of which she loved so much but had to kill. At the end she is saddened by Tea Cake, her husbands death. But all of the things that Tea Cake did filled Janie with hope in life, her reason to live.

All in all the as Janie goes through the story she starts to evolve and learn of what she wants out of life, what we see in the beginning of the story is the product we end up after the story is told.
