OF MICE AND MEN ESSAY
In John Steinbecks Of Mice and Men we are introduced to the hardship undergone during the Great Depression in America. The way people had got treated because of their background and were they were from. The rules werent as strict as they are now and people really decided what the rules were. In of mice and men Lennie was one of the most unfairly treated characters which is why the reader should feel most sorry for him.
Lennie and George are very different in the way of being best friends. They are two loving and caring best friends than anything else. When Lennie went in to talk to Crooks, Crooks and told Lennie, what happens if George doesnt come back to the ranch. George gonna come back, Lennie reassured himselfMaybe I better go see. Lennie sees George as a big brother. Lennie has a mental disability and when George had seen Lennie from when he wanted to touch the red dress, he had taken the role to look after Lennie and try to keep him out of trouble. Lennie is always around George and is always there for him but that is the same for George being there for Lennie. When times get tough and George isnt there it can get a bit hard.
Some of the things that Lennie goes through can be hurtful to him but also to other people. The novel demonstrates how Lennie had killed the puppy that he wanted when it got older and Curleys wife when he tried to brush her hair and he couldnt stop doing it. He tried to stop her from screaming but when he did thats when he had killed her. Lennies big fingers fell to stroke her hairfor Lennie had broken her neck. Lennie had then run away because he knew that he was in trouble. He then had ran off, but then George had found him and thought it would be a better idea if he had shoot Lennie himself. The other good thing with George shooting him was he had put him on a good note by getting him to say what they were going to do when they had the money. But then again there are a few down falls.
Some of the down falls were when Lennie had tried to get the girls red dress but then she had said that he was trying to assault her. The next down fall in the novel was when Lennie had killed the puppy and Curleys wife, because of his mental disability Lennie doesnt really understand most of the stuff that is said to him and he is very slow, with his disability he can get him in a lot of trouble but most of the time he doesnt know what could happen until it does happen, but on the other hand the fight that he had with Curley, Lennie didnt know what to do until they all yelled out to hit him. But when Lennie had got him back by grabbing his hand and squeezing so hard he then didnt know when to stop. Because Lennie had killed Curleys wife he then made a run for it, he knew what could happen to him. George had found Lennie and to make sure that Lennie had died on a good note, he had him thinking about what they were going to do when they had enough money. George putting him on a good note was probably the best idea for Lennie because if not Curley could of tortured him.
The novel demonstrates the great depression in America and what could happen with a disability like that, No its not Lennies fault that he has such a disability and cant help it, but for the reason he should have been well looked after. Now because of that he has been resulted as dead because of the torture that could have happened.
