The Maze Runner is a novel by James Dashner published in 2009. The book is set in a science fiction dystopia and contains themes of knowledge, psychology and freedom. Thomas is unable to remember anything except his own name and finds himself with many other teenage boys in a self-enclosed world called "the glade." The boys are trying to escape through a maze off of their living quarters but have had no success. Eventually a girl arrives bearing a message and they begin to unravel the mystery behind their imprisonment.
