Zeitoun is the story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a painter who stays in New Orleans during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Alive in the aftermath, Zeitoun spends his time helping people to safety in his canoe and caring for pets abandoned by those fleeing the storm, or killed by it. Despite his charitable pursuits, though, he is arrested without cause by the National Guard, accused of terrorist activity, and held for a prolonged period without access to counsel, a phone, or any form of recourse or medical attention.
