Weep Not, Child is a 1964 novel by Ngugi wa Thiong'o based on the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya against the British. The novel follows Njoroge, a young boy who is able to attend school and whose family works the land of Jacobo, an African with connections to the British. However, after his father Ngotho participates in a strike and attacks Jacobo, a series of tensions and fights begin, eventually leading to his father's brutal beating and the murder of Jacobo. The novel ends with Njoroge's failed suicide attempt.
