Green Mansions is the story of a Spanish gentleman recounting to a nameless narrator his adventures as a younger man. The gentleman, Abel, fled into the forests of Guyana after fighting as a revolutionary in Caracas. In Guyana he finds refuge with the natives and begins to wile away his life, but he eventually falls in love with the beautiful and mysterious Rima, the last survivor of an older tribe. Rima is killed by Indians and Abel, heartbroken, leaves. Abel believes himself cursed and wishes to be buried with Rima.
