Iola Leroy is an 1892 novel by Frances Harper about Iola Leroy, a beautiful woman of mixed race living around the time of the American Civil War. The novel tells how she was kidnapped from the North after being sent there to be educated, and then sold into slavery in the South. After the war, she continues to identify with the black community although it would be easier for her to pass as white. The novel deals with issues of racism, power, misogyny and social responsibility.
