Changes: A Love Story is a 1991 novel by Ama Ata Aidoo with strong feminist themes of oppression, independence and love. Esi Sekyi leaves her husband Oko after he rapes her and, eventually, she enters into a relationship with Ali. The two fall in love and, after conflicts between their families, get married. However, their relationship deteriorates as he spends less and less time with her, attempting to bribe her with material possessions. Although their marriage has fallen apart, Esi remains faithful and she and Ali remain friends.
