Barn Burning is the story of the Snopes Family, Sartoris and his father Abner. Abner is a prideful man who lashes out bitterly when he feels he is being slighted. After being exiled from his home, he takes his family to the plantation of the prickly Major de Spain who soon arouses his ire. Abner's preferred method of revenge is to burn the barns of those who have wronged him, and the story follows his son's perceptions of his father's failings as a man.
