After the First Death is a novel by Robert Cormier, published in 1979. The novel follows the events of a terrorist hijacking from multiple perspectives. A summer camp bus full of kids is hijacked by a group of terrorists led by Miro. Kate, the bus driver, is ordered to drive to a railroad bridge, where a siege begins with the police pitted against the terrorists, who demand freedom for their homeland. The suspenseful plot draws out themes of courage, sacrifice and resistance.
