Ghosts

Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen

Ghosts is a play about a choice forced upon Helen Alving, the administrator of a charitable orphanage ostensibly dedicated to her husband. It is soon revealed that Alving's husband was a drunk and a philanderer whom Helen was forced to stay with to avoid scandal. Helen discovers that her son Oswald has inherited syphilis from his father and is wooing one of his father's bastards, his own half-sister. The play ends with Helen making an unknown decision as to whether or not she will euthanize her son.
