A Frolic of His Own is a 1994 novel by William Gaddis revolving around themes of money, justice, bureaucracy and the law. The story follows Oscar Crease, who is recovering after a car accident and attempting to sue a movie producer for copyright infringement on his play. After refusing to accept a settlement, Oscar looses the lawsuit, appeals, and wins. However, he does not receive any money because of technicalities. Oscar's sister also does not receive her husband's life insurance after his death, nor much of their father's inheritance.
