The Rifle is a 1995 novel by Gary Paulsen that follows the story of a single rifle from the American Revolutionary War through the 1990s. The astoundingly accurate and powerful rifle was designed by Cornish McManus and later used by John Byam in the revolutionary war. After McManus and Byam's death, the gun remained in an attic until 1993, when it was found and sold to an antique dealer, then traded to another man. Later the rifle is accidently discharged, killing a child, thrown away and then later found again.
