The Great God Brown is the story of wealthy young men Billy Brown and Dion and their mutual adoration of a woman, Margaret. The play makes heavy use of masks which conceal from the characters the identity of other players. Margaret is bewitched, in the wake of Dion's death, into loving Billy when he dons the mask. Ultimately Brown's life is destroyed by his deceit and Margaret confesses that she loves only the mask, which concealed the truth of Billy and Dion both from her.
