The Shining is the story of the Torrance family and their winter in the Overlook Hotel. The Overlook, an isolated inn in the mountains, is father Jack's chance for a new career in the wake of several unexplained incidents involving alcoholism and anger issues. His wife, Wendy, and his son Danny accompany him. Jack, though, finds himself matched against the malignant spirit of the hotel itself and is soon driven to hunt his family in a fit of murderous rage.
