The novel follows Scarpetta and her team of crime investigators who must discover the identity of a serial killer who kills young couples and is very good at destroying all evidence. With the help of a crime reporter and a psychic who has worked for the FBI, Kay is able to catch the murderer, Steven Spurrier.
