Doodles Personality

Doodle from the Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst is a fascinating character. His personality shows how he acts with others and touches his family in a special way, especially his brother. Doodle has a physical disability. Doodle acts a certain way in connection with his disability and others treat him differently because he has a problem walking. He is physically weak. He is sensitive and loves nature. He is also afraid and has low self-confidence.

Doodle was born a very small infant and he is weak. As a result, Doodles parents and family did not believe that Doodle was going to live. They did not imagine he would be able to do all that he did. As an infant Doodle couldnt walk so his brother pulled him around in a go-cart that their dad made. Everyday his brother had to carry Doodle around. His brother helped him with walking, swimming, rowing a boat and climbing trees. Doodle appreciates his brother and loves him very much and feels that his brother helps him because he loves him. Doodle depends on his brother very much. However, his brother helps him because Doodles brother doesnt like having a disable brother.

Doodle loves nature. When he went with his brother to see the Old Woman Swamp Doodle began to cry. When his brother asked him what was wrong, Doodle said, Its so pretty, so pretty, pretty, pretty. The excitement and the sensitivity he has connected to nature are felt here and then, a few days before the start of school. The family was having lunch and Doodle heard a strange croaking sound, and said, Whats that? He went outside and looked at the bleeding tree and said, Its a big red bird. When the bird died Doodle wanted to burry it. Doodle cared about all living things in nature.

Doodle had low self-confidence. When his brother tried to help him walk, Doodle didnt believe in himself. He would always say, I cant walk and I cant do it.

Doodle got scared easily and felt insecure and wanted his brother to take care of him. When his brother made him touch his own casket, he screamed and said, Dont leave me brother, dont leave me! Here he expresses his fear and his dependence on his brother. He said the same thing at Horse Head Landing when one of the gum trees got shattered by a bold of lightning and his brother ran away. Doodle relied on his brother very much to help him cope with his low self esteem.

In conclusion, Doodle died at a very young age. Although he was different because he had a disability and was physically weak, he was able to accomplish a lot more than anyone ever hoped. Initially, Doodles brother helps him overcome some obstacles because he didnt like having a crippled brother. However, Doodles physical weakness, his sensitivity, and his fear were briefly overlooked by his brother and they become friends. In the end, Doodles brother leaves him behind in the rain and Doodle dies. When Doodle dies his brother is crying, he is very sad and must feel guilty that he left him behind. He expresses his feelings by screaming louder than the storm and throwing his body on top of Doodles.

Many people probably thought that Doodle would never have a happy life. However, though he lived a short life, Doodle did have a happy life. Doodle had a happy life because Doodles brother helped him. Doodle had fun with his brother and he enjoyed nature. Doodle did not worry about the real reason his brother helped him. Rather, Doodle chose to live life, love his brother, and love nature.
