Injustice in The Crucible Essay

Throughout time, there have been many injustices that were served in court situations. In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, there lies many significant themes, but the most significant of them is the idea of injustice. John Proctor, who is a man of integrity, receives this in the most profound way. He contributes to the theme of injustice because he was wrongly accused and killed even though he did not believe in witchcraft.

Although John Proctor receives injustice in the most severe way, justice was still served correctly and accordingly in the situation of the Salem Witchcraft trials. A reason why this is true is because Elizabeth Proctor lied under oath in court and was placed in prison. She gets arrested at her household saying goodbye to John, JohnI think I must go with them. Mary, there is bread enough for the morning (1285) still concerned about the family. She lies about John and Abigail having an affair, trying to save John but actually gets him killed later on. Another reason why justice was thrown in the trials is when Judge Danforth decides not to kill Elizabeth because she is with child, meaning she is pregnant. John is relieved to hear Judge Danforth say, However if I should tell you now that I will let her be kept another month; and if she shows natural signsliving yet another year until she is delivered~~ccite ~~ Elizabeth lives and is only placed in prison, as would anyone else have been in her same situation. In these events that have taken place, justice was served correctly with the manner of being true.

The injustice that John Proctor receives is wrongly put on him. This is strongly thought upon because for one, he was put to death for a cause he did not even believe in. He confesses to having an affair with Abigail, when he says, A man may think God sleeps, but God sees everything, I know it now. I beg you, sir, I beg yousee her what she is. . . She thinks to dance with me on my wifes grave! And well she might, for I thought of her softly. God help me, I lusted, and there is a promise in such sweat. But it is a whores vengeanceccite but did not want everyone to see it on paper. Another reason why justice was not served correctly is because even when John Proctor is condemned in the end, Giles Corey is too accused and later put to death for holding information from the court that they could have used. While he is being pressed to death by large, heavy stones, the only words he says are, More weight,CITE meaning he just want to get it over with because he knows he cannot escape death.
