Loyalty, Courage, and Honor
Heroes are normal people that never give up and never regret doing what they believe is right. George
What separate actual heroes from those supernatural people are their actions and intentions? A hero does not have to save a life or give their own to be considered a hero. The aspects are different to each human being on what a hero actually defines. Whether it goes to the depths of a breath or to a simple task just listen to a person when they need you there. Being loyal to them and/or yourself shows honor. In our world today Beowulf, from the poem Beowulf, would be a hero because he shows courage and never gives up.
Fearless courage, brick wall strength, and the spirit to never give up are all of the characteristics to being a hero. Just as in todays world, Beowulf had shown heroism by being there and protecting the people he cared about. Even in the times when a task seemed to be impossible to accomplish being courageous is a trait to have. When Beowulf had went to fight Grendel without a strategy that was doing something a little diverse. A hero does something not for fame, but to show their strength, and precaution towards the situation. We all have our friends, family, and enemies as the time passes we may forget some names of them. Someone who made a difference, went a little beyond expected, now those are the names remembered. Whether they are recalled through history, the community, or simply through just a person their remembered in what they did.
On the other hand, back in the time of Beowulf heroes had to be physical usually in battle. Unlike now, it could just be a simple task as in preventing and helping a person from doing drugs or to regret starting it. Youre saving their life without the big scene picture. Today if we got gold and celebrity by being considered a hero, then everyone would do so, but we do not. People give out a thank you and at times recognition through the community about what had happened.
There are so many meanings of a hero. The three qualities of a hero I think would be loyalty, courage, and honor. Any type of event that anyone is considered a hero follows those traits. Beowulf would have been a hero in modern time as well, because he carried every one of those traits and pursued them very well. Some of the supernatural things would not have occurred in todays world, but there are going to be resemblances and alterations in the two different times of the world.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. This is precisely what Beowulf persevered in the multiple battles for his people. There was probably no doubt that he had fear, but the faith that his people gave in made him stronger. He wanted to be someone they could rely on, someone that was remembered even if he got defeated. "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Oliver Wendell Holmes. Courage is something that is found within each and everyone one of us, it is just something we have to portray on our own.
