The story started out with Eddie, the main character, saving a girl from an accident. Eddie realized he ended up in heaven, but heaven didn't appear the way he thought it would be. Five people greet him one at a time, teach him different lessons, and make him understand why some events happened in his life.
The first person is a blue man whose skin turned blue from poison. Eddie barely recognized him as a person displayed at the circus. The blue man taught him that everyone in his life is in some way intercepted with your path. One extreme example is that Eddie was the cause of the death of the blue man, a distant stranger.
The second person is the war captain. He taught him that sacrifice is a part of life. Eddie learned that the person that shot his leg during the war was the captain himself. The captain shot his leg so he wouldn't save the girl trapped in the burning house. Eddie's life is saved, in the cost of having a limp leg forever. Captain also sacrificed his life due to his delay when he was saving Eddie.
The third person is Ruby. She showed him the full story behind the death of his father. Eddie had always been angry with his dad because he was doing a job he really hated, but he did it because his dad was sick, and Eddie protected his dad from being fired by doing his job. But when his dad died, Eddie's stuck with the job forever. Because of Ruby, he learned that his dad died for a reason, to save his dear friend, and Eddie was taught that he should let go of his anger.
The fourth person is Marguerite, his wife. Eddie learned from his wife that love exists in many forms. When the person you love is gone, the love still endures.
The fifth person is Tala. She's the girl Eddie wasn't able to save in the war. Tala revealed the fact that Eddie's wrong about how his life was wasted away. But actually, Eddie had saved countless of children by preventing any accidents that might happen. And Eddie died from doing what he's been doing all his life: Protecting children. Eddie also finally knows that his attempt to save the girl was successful.
The book was very interesting and really held my attentionI really enjoyed this book and recommend reading this book. The ending was fantastic, it was ironic to think that Eddie never mounted to anything or did anything constructive during his life, But in reality Eddie touch and saved many peoples lives without knowing. Great ending!!!
