Was Hamlets reaction to his fathers death right? Or was Laertes reaction the correct one? They were both correct in my opinion. There is really no wrong way to react when something like a fathers death occurs. At that moment we may be dying from the emotional pain of our fathers death that we dont think things through and just do what our body tells us. We do not think before we act because our thoughts are full of that horrible incident. However, we do not all act the same.

Laertes comes rushing in demanding revenge to Claudius, which isnt very smart, but I would not blame him because of how hurt he is for his fathers death. Laertes was so angry he did not care he wanted immediate revenge even if it meant damnation in hell. His action was not wrong, because he just reacted, but the problem was he did not think about it first then act. What he did was he acted without a thought process. Laertes had quick action and was obedient to his fathers and Claudiuss words. Laertes did not care about right or wrong, he just wanted revenge on Hamlet even if it was to cut Hamlets throat at in a church. Laertes was a man of action, but action without thought.

Hamlet was a bit different, he did take initiative but he thought it out before he did anything. When the ghost showed up he questioned much as to if it was his fathers ghost or a devil spirit. Hamlets emotion was the same as Laertes but just that he did care about his soul being more important than immediate revenge. That is why he did not kill his uncle while he prayed. The only way to find out if he was right was to make sure if Claudius was the killer of his father. That is when he thought out the Mouse Trap to see Claudiuss reaction to the play, if he were to be stunned by it; it would show he did do it. This overall shows that Hamlet was a thinker. Hamlet was also a man of action, but action that had thought into it.

However, aside from both being different they are alike as well. One of their similarities is that they both were able to see truth and justice when it was present. For example, when Laertes sees he was played by Claudius he immediately regrets what he did and says the truth. Both Hamlet and Laertes were sons of concerning fathers. Fathers who did not want their sons to ruin and dirty their family name. This was a reason why Claudius sent away Hamlet after thinking he was mad, he even sent for him to be killed. They both also had same emotions when their fathers died, they were both angry. They both seemed for revenge on their fathers murderers.
