KING LEAR LEARNS THROUGH SUFFURING

The character of King Lear starts off as a strong and proud king, who decides to hand over his kingdom to his three daughters, intending to spend the rest of his days travelling between the homes of his three daughters. Yet, this is the reason why Lear suffering starts. He becomes mad because of his actions and it leads to him and his family falling apart. Lear, being metaphorically blind, is unable to see the false flattery presented by his daughters, Goneril, Regan, and it ultimately leads to his downfall.

Lears old age causes him to behave rashly and the lack consideration for the consequences of his actions is the main reason why he messes up. Lear asks his loyal Cordelia, his most beloved daughter, to express her love for him, and he becomes upset with her when she simply answers him that she cannot put her feeling into words and that she loves him only as much as she has to. No less or more. The foolish Lear does not realize that she cares deeply for him and disowns her by saying get out of my sight without my blessing, love and kindness.

After giving away everything, Lear arrives at the home of Goneril with his 100 rowdy knights. Although he expects to remain in authority even after he has given away his power and proceeds, he is no longer respected by his daughter. Goneril quickly takes the opportunity to put down her father. Lear becomes so angry that he leaves Gonreils home in a cursing range. He sends his servant, the disguised Kent, to Regans house to announce his approaching visit. Goneril, on the other hand, sends her steward Oswald to warn her sister of their fathers approach. Goneril and Regan refuse to allow their father to take place in either of their mansions, forcing him to face a terrible storm without a shelter. That is where both of the daughters show their true colors and Lear greatly regrets his hasty decision, because of which he is now left with nothing.

King Lear, slowly breaking down, now realizes that he was wrong all along and banishing his only beloved faithful daughter was a mistake. Lear slowly starts to understand that he wasnt a good person himself. Being in awful conditions makes him realize how selfish he has been. He calls himself a man, more sinned against than sinning. Lear rips off his clothes, to give himself up to change and to seek the truth. Still, hate and rage coursing through him, he curses those who have betrayed him.

King Lear breaks down, going from a powerful man to crazy rundown. It is all because of the people close to him, whom he trusted but who ultimately stabbed him in the back. The pain of falling down from grace and having his children disown him in his time of nursing damaged him enough to thrust him into madness and make him suffer. However, at the end, King Lear gains insight and is able to see his sins and understand his foolishness. His suffering and madness allowed him to in terms with himself.
