MACBETH ESSAY

When Lady Macbeth is informed about the confrontation with the witches and the prophesy she manipulates Macbeth by testing his manhood by calling him a coward. She knows she cant kill Duncan herself as he reminds her of her father. Lady Macbeth knows that Macbeth is too good to do this evil and unnatural deed yet do I fear thy nature is too full oth milk of human kindness. She formulates a plan on how to murder the king and frame the chamberlains. Lady Macbeth calls upon dark, evil sprits to unsex me here this shows she is conscious of the womanly loving nature within her and doesnt want it to stop her or make her hesitant.

Macbeth is agonising by just thinking about the unnatural deed and asks Stars, hide your fires! Let not light see my black and deep desires. This shows Macbeths strong moral sense and he is struggling to beat his ambition for ultimate power. Macbeth is conscious of the consequences of the dark deed. He agonises over reasons for not murdering the king: hes here in double trust, he is the one who as his host should against his murder shut the door, not bear the knife.

Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to do the deed and tells him look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent undert. Lady Macbeth is very superficial about the murder of Duncan and doesnt realise what they are giving up, peace of mind happiness and moral order, for ultimate power.

During the murder Macbeth ha gone into a form of psychological madness as he hallucinates and sees a dagger like his own pointing in the direction of Duncan. We see the toll of the damage his mind has gone through. When Macbeth cannot say amen is shows us that Macbeth has fallen from gods grace and is eternally damned to hell. Macbeth has murdered sleep. Sleep is significant in the fact that it shows that a man is in order with his conscience and in moral order.

After the murder Macbeth is filled with the horror of his actions and cant go back and complete the plan by placing the daggers with the drugged chamberlains. He realises that this deed will effect all his actions and decisions this my hand will rather the multitudinouse seas incardine, making one green, one red.

We see Lady Macbeth decisive and unscrupulous after the deed. She faints to draw attention from Macbeth who has now killed the chamberlains. Macbeth spirals downward as he kills to keep the thrown as he knows there is no future after this life as he has fallen from gods grace. Macbeth murders Banquo and Macduffs wife and children. This shows Macbeth hardened to the core as he kills innocents and his best friend. When Banquos ghost appears to Macbeth he is taken back and Lady Macbeth tries to cover up for him saying he is ill and is having a fit which is short lived, but the night is ruined.

Lady Macbeth challenges his and asks him: are you a man? we a the readers dont sympathize and believe he is a coward now unlike befor when lady Macbeth challenged him we knew that he was a man.

When Lady Macbeths mind breaks she takes to sleep waking and obsessing over a spot of blood on her hands heres the smell of blood still: all the perfumes will not sweeten this little hand She has gone insane and when she takes her life. Macbeth is so hardened he is unmoved by the scream and news of his wifes death. This shows a bare contrast to the Macbeth we see agonising over the fantastical idea of murdering the king.

In the end when he is slain by Macduff we see Macbeth has an understanding of what he has lost: love, trust, compassion, honour and moral order, and we almost feel sorry for him. But we cant because all of the innocence murdered. The death of Lady Macbeth shows she was conscience stricken and could not take the guilt. As for Macbeth he stopped conforming with his wife and grew apart. He no longer agonised over murder.
