Macbeth
At the beginning of the play Shakespeare had used crafting to make us believe that Macbeth is this war hero who is courageously fighting of the attack,with Banquo, by the Vikings. A quote from the captain quotes: As cannons overcharged with double cracks This means Macbeth was fighting like cannons. The king Duncan quotes : Valiant cousin Which means brave cousin. Duncan also quotes : Worthy gentlemen
Which means brave gentlemen.
Know the witches have come and told Macbeth with mysterious messages of the future. Of him being thane of Cowdor and then King. Then he discovered he is the thane of cowdor. Know sly Macbeth is know thinking if that was right maybe this is right. Macbeth quotes: If chance may have me king, why chance may crown me This means if chance made him thane chance may make him king. He also quotes: Whose murder let it be This means he is talking about killing Duncan. He also quotes: Why do I still yield to that suggestion. This means his is admitting he is still thinking about the suggestion the witches made.
Macbeth doesn't want to kill Duncan, his cousin, because the people of Scotland believe that he is the second closest to god. So if he kills Duncan he would probably
be brutishly slaughtered by the people of Scotland. Also he believes if he does commit this act of genocide he would also be punished in the afterlife. Macbeth quotes ; I am his subjectWhich means he is his follower and loyal to the king.
He quotes: To plague the inventor. This even handed justice. Which means if he does this he will get punished in the afterlife by the creator. He quotes: Vaulting ambition which O'er laps itself which means it is only his ambition which is leading to think about killing the king.
Macbeth doesn't want to kill the king however, lady Macbeth is questioning his man ship and calling him a coward for refusing to kill the King. She quotes:But screw your courage Which means forget about your courage. She also quotes : We'll not fail
This is trying to motivate him to murder Duncan. She quotes: When you durst do it , then you were a man. This means she is telling Macbeth he isn't a man. She is annoying Macbeth until he gives in and commits the murder.
Shakespeare is writing his play as the Witches being the tormentors and the evil ones
thinking of the king special in mind. This is because the king and people in those times believed that witches causes every bad thing. The king also believes that the witches also killed his mother and his father. Also because of making witches being the evil people in the play he would get more funding for his theatre. Also by the king the richest person in Britain at that time.
At the beginning Shakespeare had made us think that Macbeth is this heroic figure who is courageously fighting for king and country against the brutal Vikings, however further in the play we discovered that the witches has filled Macbeth with crazy prophesies. Then lady Macbeth devised a plan and forces Macbeth to kill Duncan. Furthermore because of this interference Macbeth is now this malevolent and sly character who ,murdered his own cousin for his self being.
