Things Come Together
In the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Talks about a Nigerian tribe and their struggles as a tribe with the coming of colonist .The author shows how hard it was for a tribe to keep their believes and their essence when the white man came , and their struggles dealing with the core of their tribes, witch is their religion.
The Nigerian life and culture has many features in their society in common with mine . One of those features could be notice in their religion . They believe in many Gods yet they have one that is the most powerful. The idea that their is a more powerful force grater than all human imagination. To them this force must be respected and controls things that we as humans can not understand. In my believe this force or God, is Jesus or should I say the father of Abraham.Even though their God has a different name or even maybe a different face. It all sums down , the same. Both Gods promote good , in our actions in our society and encourages us to act civil . It also allows us to have mental stability and not worry about things that us a humans do not have the explanation too . As well as my God , theirs promotes health and tranquility. The Nigerian faith has a series of customs much different from ours as well as we do . One can be that we have The Body Of Christ .This to them might be non-sense but to us is something sacred and must be respected. as we have to respect their traditions , like de sacred well that cannot be touched . However in the novel when Okonkwo dies by hanging himself . This to the tribe is one of the biggest sins . This is very similar to what the bible says too . Although to them its so sinful that they can even touch the body . In conclusion we all might have different ways of conducting our faith and all humans should be able to respect each of our believes . Without being wrong or right . Because at the end of the day it is all the same .
Another feature that have an impact on me in the novel was the way the male gender differences from the female . Although in the novel is more aggressive than today . To me is all the same in my own culture . The men play the more important role in todays society. The features are very similar to the ones in Nigeria. The more buff , tall ,inpatient , strong tampered the more manly you are . As like theirs ,men have to prove them selves to society with their characteristics and the way they act and do thing including their own jobs and their way of treating women . The important jobs are mostly done by men in the tribe as it is here and was a couple of years ago, as well . Something that is shocking as well ,is the fact the polygamy is very well excepted in the tribe if is done by men . This reminds me of some of the youth in my society that the more women you have the more manly you are . Also the fact that if women do the same they would be consider shamed upon as even today .The fact that the men do all the work and the women stay home cooking , cleaning and taking care of the children is much alike . Even as to being sensitive, more in touch with feelings in music or even the job you have . Puts you're gender in doubt. Surprisingly homophobia existed as well to them . A example of this is what Okonkwo thinks of his own father and his actions. He did not want to be like his father because he was considered to be a girl for having all these quality .This outcome made Okonkwo the way he was and the way he though about thing in other word homophobic . Because he did not want to be that shame of tribe he lived in . It also made him so skeptical of his own children and the way he treated his oldest boy .The idea that the boy would be like Okonkwos dad did not fit his ideals so he pushed the boy a lot. This still plays of today very much as well . Since we are young parents show us what is proper and not ,and what is lady like and what is manly .
