For a book that was published way back in 1932, Brave New World has remarkable meaning in today's world. After further examination of this "perfect" world, it seems strangely similar to our own society, which is not in any way near being perfect. The society in Brave New World and our society today share many similarities and differences.

In this brave new world, people are created on an assembly line, and there are no mothers and no fathers. People are typecast into their area of profession from before birth, if you could call it that. People are given drugs to control themselves, and there is no personal freedom.

As entertainment becomes more and more extreme and cutting edge, one wonders if virtual reality will take the audience on a soma-like trip into its deep unconscious? Can a new medium with even more bells and whistles than television waste even more of an individual's time?

Brave New World is greatly dependent upon soma, as in our world where prescribed drugs and drug abuse are prominent. This is evident when Bernard and Lenina return from the Savage Reservation. Lenina is devastated from her experiences, so decides to take soma. It illustrates how like our world when something upsets us instead of trying to solve the problem we use drugs to mask them.

Huxely’s prediction of the future has proven to be accurate on many counts. Today’s society has an eerie resemblance to that portrayed in Brave New World.

In our world, when people are very young, they cannot wait to learn how to read, but ironically, teenagers for the most part cannot stand reading or even don’t know how to read. In the Brave New World children are taught to never like books, thus the same outcome in both situations.

Huxley in his book put 5 different group of people alphas, betas, gammas, deltas and epsilons even now we can put people in some direction like that: businessmen, doctors, lawyers, engineers, and students. But Huxley didn’t include thing that the hierarchy can be changed.
