Once the term hero is mentioned, what is the first main thing that comes to mind? Once I think of the term hero, I think of a person who has made a heroic action and is recognized for his or her courage and braveness. He or she is appreciated by other people and is seen at as an inspiration, a hero, or encouragement for others. An example of an idol or hero would be everything those individuals who surrendered themselves to save a life from the fire or the war in Iraq. Then we have the question of what is a tragic hero? To me a tragic hero is somebody or someone with virtuousness and dominance that finishes up declining due to certain responsibilities such as greediness and envy. This leads me to the issue is Medea a tragic hero?
From what I have read and understood, I would defiantly ponder Medea a tragic hero. Medea was a princess of Colchis. Just to be with Jason, she deceived her father and slaughtered her own brother just to be with a man that she loved. It was a sacrifice that she went through. Once having two children with Jason, Medea was the one that now felt deceived and betrayed because Jason abandoned her to be with another woman, Glauce, the daughter of Kreon, who was the ruler of Corinth. Meanwhile Jason departed Medea for another woman this made her sightless to all the significant things in life. Medea sensed like she had nothing to live for.
However in the end Medea wasnt prepared to sacrifice her own life, but to take in the lives of the people around her to cause everything the distress Jason has triggered her. She then chooses to poison Jasons new fiance and the ruler with a clothing brought by her two children. Knowing her kids would be chased down, since they delivered the dress, Medea agrees to take the existence of her own kids to enhance to the depression of Jason. Is Medea that upset and complete of vengeance that she would take the existence of her own kids to repay back at her spouse? I guess she is. Butshe did achieve in making Jason agonize but at the end of the day, I consider Medea lost just as much as Jason did, aching herself as well, which would make her a tragic hero.
