The Friar in Romeo And Juliet Essay

In the play The Tragedy of Romeo And Juliet by William Shakespeare, the friar, a Franciscan priest, is completely responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, are a pair of two star-crossed lovers born into conflicting families. There are three instances the friar is involved with, the impossible marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Juliet's death plan and Romeo's death. Without the friar many big events would not have happened in Romeo and Juliet.

The impossible wedding of Romeo and Juliet could not have happened without the Friar. First of all, the Friar agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet, even though he knows it will cause problems. In the beginning, the Friar thinks that the marriage will bring the Capulets and the Montagues back together and get them to stop fighting. Which shows that the Friar has hope that their marriage will work. at first, he shows no emotion to marry them. But as time moves on the Friar feels that that this whole wedding is happening too fast and he is having second thoughts. If the Friar had thought about his decisions, he might have prevented future problems.

The second time, the Friar agrees to give Juliet this illegal potion. The Friar makes up this entire plan, which will need everyone's help to work smoothly. The Friar has to make sure that Romeo knows about the plan. However, the Friar trusts Friar John to much, who doesn't get the letter to Romeo. So, it is Friar Lawrence's' fault that Romeo doesn't know about the letter and ends up confused about Juliet's death. Also,

Finally, it is the Friars fault that Romeo and Juliet are dead. The death's of Romeo and Juliet probably wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the Friar. Romeo, who didn't know about Friar's plan, kills himself when he thinks that Juliet is dead. Juliet wakes up and sees that Romeo is dead, and stabs her self. The Friar feels guilty now and realizes that he could be blamed for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If the Friar wasn't the reason for the deaths he wouldn't feel guilty. In the end, the Friar knows he is responsible for these deaths.

Without the Friar a lot of things wouldn't of happened. The marriage of Romeo and Juliet, which led to Juliet needing to lie, which finally led to the deaths of Romeo and herself . The Friar married the two lovers, even though he knew it would be impossible. The Friar helped Juliet fake her death and lie to her parents, and didn't even try hard enough to tell romeo about his plan. The lives of Romeo and Juliet were gone, but the friar is a very important character. Without him there wouldn't have been a story.
