In Romeo and Juliet Act 3, scene 5, Lord Capulet is shown to be a concerned, caring father. How far do you agree with this statement, both in this scene and elsewhere in the play?
A good father is needed in every childs life, especially in the crucial moments. This is because fathers are normally the protectors and leaders of the family. They should be caring, giving, understanding and loving.
In Shakespeares time, women were seen as inferior to men. They were also not allowed to make any decisions. The men were the controllers of everything such as who they would marry, where they would go and what they would do. This is why marriages were arranged to suit the family, Elizabethan women were expected to marry to increase the wealth and position of the family. When the females did get married they were expected to produce male heirs, this is because males were more supreme and have more control.
William Shakespeare wrote many plays and one of his most popular romantic tragedies is 'Romeo and Juliet'. Shakespeare wrote his plays in the Elizabethan times. Today Shakespeare is still one of the most popular playwrights. 'Romeo and Juliet' is one of the most famous love stories even today. Perhaps Capulets behavior, which seems odd to a modern audience, was expectable in Elizabethan times.

My will to her consent is but a part; and she agree, within her scope of choice lies my consent and fair according voice
