The Most Effective Mentors

In the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence and the Nurse cared about Romeo and Juliet very much. They both did what they thought was the best for them. Overall I think that Friar Laurence was the most effective mentor in the play.

The Nurse gave a lot of good advice but did not take the biggest effect on Juliet. Lord Capulet wanted Juliet to marry Paris. Juliet was very upset and did not love Paris. In the play the Nurse said, Then since the case so stands as now it doth, I think it is best you married with the county. Although Romeo and Juliet would probably be alive if they took this advice, it is not right for a girl to marry a man that she does not with to marry or for her to be miserable. The Nurse gave good advice, but she was not as strong or as effective as Friar Laurence.

Friar Laurence gave very helpful and effective advice. Romeo took advice on what Friar said. When Romeo and Tybalt had a fight, Romeo had won and killed Tybalt. Romeo went running to Friar and told the story to Friar. Friar said, Hence from Verona art thou banishes: Be patient, for the world is broad and wide. In this quote said by Friar is saying to Romeo that he should go away till things cool off in town. And to be patient and do not worry. Romeo fully trusted Friar and always knew Friar would do what he thought was right. Not only did Romeo trust him but also Juliet. Friar took a huge chance on risking there lives and future just so that Romeo and Juliet could be together. Friar said to Juliet, Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distilling liquor drink thou off. That says that Juliet should take this potion that will put her into a deep sleep for 24 hours, and when she wakes she will be in a tomb with Romeo waiting to leave the town and banish forever. Friar is taking a great chance in this plan. He also sends a letter to Romeo to let him know what the plan is so that everything works out.

Although Friar Laurence and the Nurse were very effective on both Romeo and Juliet, I truly believe that Friar seemed to be the most effective mentor in this play.
