The Epic of Gilgamesh and Noahs Ark have lots of similarities and differences. Both had to do with floods because of how people were being disobedient. Both also had one man and their families survive the floods.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enlil was frustrated by the noise on Earth, so he gave Utnaphishtim to survive the flood. Enlil told him to build an arc so that he could save humanity from perishing. The storm last for six days and six nights. On the seventh day the storm settled in the south, the sea was calm, and the flood was still. When he looked out of the arc, the world was silent and mankind was turned to clay. Utnaphistim let a dove go on the seventh day, but she found no resting place and returned. He then let a reven out of the arc on the seventh day and it never came back. In the end, Utnaphistim received immortatilty.
In Genesis 6-9, God called upon Noah to make an arc because God was going to flood the earth. God was frustrated with the wickedness on earth, and how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time. God regretted he mad man on earth, and his heart was saddened. He chose Noah because he was a righteous man, blameless in his age, and he walked with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Joseth. God told Noah to make an arc of gopher wood with compartments, and cover it inside and out with pitch. God wanted the length of the arc three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and height thirty cubits. God established covenant with Noah. Noah had to take two of each that had flesh with him into the arc, on male and one female. Noah did as God commanded him. Noah was six hundred years old when the flood occurred. The flood continued for forty days and forty nights. Noah released a dove and it found land, so him and everyone else on the arc survived and is the reason humanity is still here today.
Both stories are very similar. The extent of the flood was global in both stories. The floods were caused by mans sins and wickedness. They were intended for all mankind. The flood was sent by God in Genesis, and by a group of Gods in Gilgamesh. Noah and Utnaphistim were righteous. Both were ordered to build an arc and complained. The arcs had many compartments inside of them. Both had one door, at least one window, and made of pitch. Both had family members on the boat when the flood occurred.
These stories were very similar in many ways. Even more than what is listed, but these are just a few of the similarities.
